Oracle DB 11gR2 – Audit files generated in $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/audit even though location is changed

show parameters
NAME                     TYPE                     VALUE
----------------       ------------------ --------------------
audit_file_dest     string /var/adm/log
audit_sys_operations boolean FALSE
audit_trail string DB

Even though the audit_file_dest is set to /var/adm/log directories, I still find audit files generated in $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/audit directory. Please also note that the audit logging is turned off with audit_sys_operations parameters set to false.

Oracle will ALWAYS audit certain operations in $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/audit directory.

  1. Connection to DB with SYSDBA or SYSOPER
  2. DB startup
  3. DB shutdown

Please refer to MOS (DOC ID 308066.1) for more information.

Cheers,
Wei Shan
